The team demonstrated capturing sound from inside a high-rise building from a bridge 25 meters away by analyzing vibrations of a lightbulb. The attack worked by connecting an electro-optical sensor to a telescope (passively, externally, and in real time). They were able to demonstrate recovery of speech that could be transcribed by Google Speech to Text API and songs that can be identified by Shazam and Sound Hound. The work was presented at BlackHat and received other mediate attention (Wired, ArsTechnica, Vice, Forbes, Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, etc.).
